Lord of PJs - Review

Scintillating stuff from A S M Vaidya. We have seen J R R Tolkein, we have seen J K Rowling, "Who would be the next ?" we have asked. In the age of quick fame, amidst the rush of Maximum Time Pass, who has the skill, the grand vision to pen down an epic ? The answer is here at last. The next successor in the line of epic writers strarting with Valmiki and Ved Vyas.

Lord of the PJs, first published in h4@cse is in the tradition of those masterful "Unputdownables" that have held people in thrall for centuries. Based on real events, this series easily outshines previous efforts bearing similar names. It tells the story of once happy and easygoing inmates of H4 who were sentenced to the dark gloom of an unstoppable stream of PJs by the Dark Lord of the PJs. Read "Fellowship of the PJs" to know how the dark magic of the PJs drew one h4ite after another into its folds.

"The two towers" delivers on the promises left by its predecessor, desribes the hope and despair of the people as they brace up for the ultimate challenge. How will it all end? Will there be someone to deliver us all from the PJs of power? Hold your breath for the final showdown...

Part - I : Fellowship of PJs
----------------------------

Once upon a time not very long ago, normal students were leading normal lives at IIT Bombay. They would wake up early in the wee hours of the afternoon, go for tiffin, chat around a bit and exercise their playing muscles in the evening. Post-dinner, the normal work-hours would commence with everybody running helter-skelter trying to beat the 12:00 midnight submission deadlines. Post midnight would be reserved for movies, Friends and sundry other entertainments, till the end of the day at sunrise. Life was quiet and charming, punctuated by an occasional birthday bash or a treat.

But, as you must have already guessed, for any story that begins with a "once upon a time...", the cute picture painted in the opening paragraph cannot subsist beyond the second. And at this point, must, enters our story, the villain, the notorious Kedar Godbole. With all his wit and humour, he laid a systematic trap of PJs into which, were drawn all the unwitting people of the land one by one.

Like all men of honour, they prefered to fight their battle alone and paid the price. The first to fall was tiny Vaibhav Gupta. He was followed soon after by Naval Vaidya. Even the indomitable Saurabh Joshi could not resist the growing power of Kedar's PJs. All hopes now rested on the MLC. Can the MLC redeem the lost cause of sanity and restore the world to order?

Part II: The Two Towers
-----------------------

The MLC was the last hope for the World of Sane People, the last vestige of freedom, the last ray of moonshine. The battlelines were drawn, the forces amassed. The world braced itself to witness the mother of all battles.

The two stepped on to the battlefield, weapons drawn, eyes red. As expected Kedar fired the first salvo -- a PJ about the Earth being "flat". It hit the world like a whirlwind. Everyone was watching the MLC expectedly. What would its response be? Surely, such a drab PJ will not go unpunished. The MLC raised its head; its eyes were red; its nostrils swelling. It opened its mouth and ---
--- and fired a PJ about the Earth being a "bungalow".

For a long time the world could not understand what hit it. What was happening? Did we hear it correclty? The MLC, the Guardian of all Sane Men, had joined forces with the Enemy! All hope was lost now. Everything was ruined.

And thus were born the "Two Towers of PJs". Together the two towers would rein the world for decades to come. The world awaits; awaits a hobbit who can free it from the evil ring of PJs.

Yeah,

We googled for it. Its an ich (white spot) causing parasite for fish
(yeah that's right).

http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/FA006

Ichthyophthirius multifiliis is a ciliated protozoan which causes "Ich"
or "white spot disease." This disease is a major problem to aquarists
and commercial fish producers world wide. Ichthyophthirius is an
important disease of tropical fish, goldfish, and food fish. The disease
is highly contagious and spreads rapidly from one fish to another. It
can be particularly severe when fish are crowded. While many protozoans
reproduce by simple division, a single "Ich" organism can multiply into
hundreds of new parasites. This organism is an obligate parasite which
means that it cannot survive unless live fish are present. It is capable
of causing massive mortality within a short time. An outbreak of "Ich"
is an emergency situation which requires immediate treatment: if left
untreated, this disease may result in 100% mortality.

I meant i as in p+ij. May be you are right, that is, the j here is
dependent on 't'. Try sending it during our 3rd stage submission :-)

Had heard this one about 2 years back and couldnt stop laughing!
Thoroughly enjoyed it then. Try recalling this when you are under
pressure (>= 10 Pascal) say some submission or so, takes a lot of
load off. worked for me then at office :-).

Rik, I donot know what dimension you are looking at, the J element
is present in all the dimensions! :-)

YAPJ (Yet Another PJ):

A monkey climbed onto a mango tree and saw a donkey sitting there. It
was surprised and asked the donkey:"What are you doing up here?". The
donkey said:"Eating apples". The monkey said:"But this is a mango tree,
you donkey!". The donkey said:"I know, I have got some apples along with
me".

The 'P' part is obvious, but what about the 'J' vector ? Even a search
of the 'i' dimension did not yield any 'J' in this :-)
